Hi Ben. We play on Wednesday evenings from 7.30pm at Cromwell’s Tap House, on Dogpole. Just pop along one Wednesday and join us for a few friendly games. We usually play quieter games in the room to the side of the bar area, but you may find some of us in the bar area too.

I used to be a member of the club in the 1970s! I also new many older members. Can the secretary please contact me to enable some discussions? Thanks. Peter

      Hi Patrick.

Yes please do come along. We’ll be there from just before 7.30pm. There may be a couple of quiet games going on but there should also be plenty there for some friendly social chess, so come along and say hi.

      Hi Hannah.

Yes we are open to everyone, and we do have one or two younger members there most weeks from about 7.30pm on Wednesdays. There is a league match in our usual quiet room tomorrow, but there will still be players there for friendly games as well, either there or in the bar area, so please call in and see us.

    Hi Dan,

I’m in the area and am looking to learn how to play chess. Would there be any instructional sessions available at the club? Are they weekly?

    Thanks!
    Manasvi

      Hi Manasvi

Whilst we don’t run specific instructional sessions or lessons, we have a wide variety of members with different levels of experience, some of whom are quite new to chess so do feel free to come along. We do meet weekly, and we’d be happy to get you started on your chess journey.
      Dan
