WhatsApp you say? New Initiatives Unveiled for Members
A new WhatsApp group and online calendar are among the fresh initiatives unveiled by Shrewsbury Chess Club to help members.
All members are welcome to join the WhatsApp group, which will be used to help improve communication between players. A number of players have already signed up, and discussions have included interesting positions in matches, availability of players for matches and the fortunes of members in the county’s individual competitions.
It is not intended for WhatsApp to replace emails between captains and players, but it is hoped the group will provide a less formal setting for members to chat and discuss club and chess-related topics.
Meanwhile, the club’s webmaster Francis Best has unveiled the new online calendar on this website. It lists the dates of matches in all formats for all of the club’s teams and the dates of upcoming club nights at the Nerdy Café.
The calendar will be updated regularly, and currently dates for November and December are listed.
There are four more dates for the club at Nerdy this year. Shrewsbury A will play a local derby against Telepost B on November 25 in division one of Shropshire Chess League. The remaining club nights this year will be held on December 2, 16 and 30.
Any members interested in joining the WhatsApp group should email social media officer Peter Kitchen at peterkitchen83@gmail.com and they will be added as soon as possible.
