Round The Town Move as New Venue Confirmed
Shrewsbury Chess Club is delighted to confirm it has secured a new town centre venue as its home.
The club will hold league matches and club nights at Cromwell’s Tap House, effective immediately.
Members will continue to meet at 7.30pm on Wednesdays for the immediate future, with ideas in the pipeline for further activities to increase local interest in the game during the summer months.
People of all ages and abilities are being actively invited to attend club nights, starting from this Wednesday (May 29), where a warm welcome will be assured.
The move follows the recent club extraordinary general meeting, called after it emerged our previous venue Albert & Co Frankville would be turning into an “events only” venue.
That meeting attracted a healthy attendance, and those present expressed a strong desire to try finding a new venue and keep the club going.
A sub-committee was formed, and an arrangement very quickly struck with staff at Cromwell’s to accommodate the club.
We are extremely thankful to everyone at Albert & Co Frankville for their generous hospitality and support. They stepped forward to help our club at a time of dire need, and we will be forever grateful – we wish them all the best for the future.
As a club we are looking to attract more members of all ages and abilities. We are one of the oldest clubs in the county with a history dating back more than 100 years, but as well as competing locally in Shropshire Chess League and winning several league and cup honours over the years, we pride ourselves in being a friendly and welcoming bunch who share a common love of the game.
Anyone wanting more details about the club can visit www.shrewsburychessclub.org or get in touch via our Facebook page 👍
We look forward to seeing some of you soon as we look to build a happy and sustainable future for our club and chess in the county town 🙂 Please share this far and wide!
