Club Champions 2001-2025

The 21st century has seen many changes at the chess club. Changes to our venue and to our membership have seen new names added to our list. There was even a change to our Club Championship format: the half point incentive! Introduced by the then controller, Tony Purser, it sees an additional half point awarded to players who play their games on time!

Perhaps the biggest change we’ve seen is the growth of online chess, and the ability to play competitive club games even when an over the board game can’t be arranged. This proved useful during the covid lock-down.

However, names familiar to those of us who were at the club in the 1980s and 1990s still feature in this most recent list of winners of our club championship including Gordon Bradley (pictured receiving the trophy in 2002).
